Within the framework of the Ludovika Scholars Program, Veljko Blagojević, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of International Politics and Economics in Belgrade, delivered a lecture to students of the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training at the Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) on October 13.
Blagojević has substantial military and diplomatic experience, having previously served as the defence attaché of the Republic of Serbia in the Republic of North Macedonia. In his lecture titled “Military Power in International Politics: Past, Present, and Future,” he examined the complex process of the reconfiguration of the global power system, analyzing the historical and contemporary dimensions of the topic as well as its future prospects. Blagojević reviewed the history of how the world power system operates beginning with the era of the American and French revolutions, providing a detailed account of the historical turning points that have led to today’s geopolitical situation. The lecture addressed issues that remain pivotal today, including the strategic implications of NATO enlargement, Ukraine’s security situation, and the dynamics of relations between Russia and China, as well as their global effects.
What made the lecture distinctive was its interactive character: both military and civilian students had the opportunity to engage actively in the discussion. The questions raised and the answers provided created space for the confrontation of different perspectives and for the development of a deeper, more nuanced understanding. The event excellently served the professional development of participants by offering up-to-date and novel insights in the fields of security policy and strategic studies. The lecture not only conveyed theoretical knowledge but also helped students to better comprehend the complex contemporary international processes and their interconnections, thereby contributing to the training of a new, well‑informed generation of experts.
