Foreign Affairs Club: 30 years of Visegrad Cooperation

The participants of the recent event of the Foreign Affairs Club of the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy discussed the last three decades of the Visegrád Cooperation.

On February 15, 1991, with the signing of the Visegrád Declaration, the Visegrád Cooperation was established. Looking at the cooperation from a 30-year perspective, the association of the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, ie the Visegrad Four (V4), became by now the dominant regional organization of Central Europe in the European Union. "Today, exactly 30 years later, we see that the members of the V4 group have a stronger voice together and even one by one," said Mrs. Orsolya Pacsay-Tomassich, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Mrs. Krisztina Varju, Ministerial Commissioner for the Presidency of the Visegrad Cooperation (V4) in 2021-2022 said: the initiators at the time (Mr. József Antall, Mr. Václav Havel, Mr. Lech Wałęsa) may not have even guessed how long the cooperation would last. Mr. Péter Stepper, assistant professor of the Department of International Security Studies of the Faculty of Military Sciences and Military Training of Ludovika, emphasized that in the growing intraregional competition, the V4 cooperation has an advantage for all four countries. Small steps are constantly being taken in the cooperation, which are not always visible and perceptible from the outside, but are of great importance.

The Diplomacy Training Program of the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy offers a wide range of competitive knowledge to all those who wish to work in the Hungarian diplomatic corps and represent Hungarian national and economic interests in the world. The goal of the Program is for students who successfully complete the training to be employees of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade
