The New Rector of NUPS Received his Mandate

Dr. András Koltay has ceremoniously received his mandate as rector from János Áder, President of Hungary in the Sándor Palace. According to the decision of the President, the appointment of the new rector would last for 5 years, effective from September 1st.

The election and then the appointment of András Koltay took place after András Patyi, former rector of the university has resigned on August 31st. The tendering procedure was opened by the university’s Governing Board where András Koltay was the only applicant. The Senate and the Governing Board both supported the application while the President of Hungary made the final decision about the mandate. At the Senate meeting, Dr. Koltay explained in detail his agenda as a rector, which includes the strengthening of inner structure of NUPS and the cooperation between the various faculties and institutes to enhance the already present energies.

András Koltay graduated in law at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University in 2002, where he acquired his PhD degree as well. His academic career has started as an associate professor at the university’s civil law department. Later he became a senior lecturer in 2007 then an associate professor in 2012. Since 2016 he is the head of the civil law department. During his professional career, Dr. Koltay completed additional legal and management studies organised by the University College London, the International Institute for Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Kent Institute of Sydney. Parallel to his academic activities, he is member of the Media Council, his main research fields are freedom of speech, media law, right of publicity and communication law.
