Acting Head of Department: Lt. Col. Ferenc FAZEKAS, PhD

Lieutenant Colonel Ferenc Fazekas graduated from the Miklós Zrínyi National Defence University in 2003 as mechanized infantry officer. After 16 years of service at an infantry brigade and the Joint Force Command, he assigned to the University of Public Service as an instructor at the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training in 2019. He joined the department in 2020, and became acting head of department in 2026. His scientific and teaching activity mainly covers the areas of the theory of military operations, aspects of military leadership, theory of military operations planning, and theory and practice of land operations.

About the Department

The Department of Military Strategy and Operations considers itself the successor of the Department of Military Strategy that formed in 2006 as part of the Miklós Zrínyi National Defence University. Our direct predecessor is the University of Public Service’s Department of Military Strategy and Military Theory. The department has its current designation since 2025.

Our department has multiple roles. Our primary task is the education, and the continuous review and improvement of our curriculum regarding the basic, master, and doctoral studies, as well as regarding specialised military courses. In addition, we seek to contribute the advancement of military science by conducting research, creating publications and mentoring doctoral students. Additionally, we are responsible for the master military leader and the senior military leader training programmes.
