New Vice-Rector for International Affairs at LUPS


From February 1, 2024, Pier Paolo Pigozzi will be the new Vice-Rector for International Affairs at the Ludovika University of Public Service. 

Professor Pigozzi has taught and researched in areas that range from international law, comparative constitutional law, human rights and jurisprudence. In February 2024, Pigozzi joined the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies, Department of Constitutional and Comparative Public Law and was appointed Vice-rector for International Affairs at LUPS.

He earned his LL.B. from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (2006) and his JSD (2020) and LL.M. (2010) in International Human Rights Law from Notre Dame Law School. Pigozzi’s professional experience includes the UNHCR and the Ecuadorean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has also been an expert witness before the Inter-American Court and a consultant to the European Commission as well as to the USAID Paraguay Program on Rule of Law and Culture of Integrity. Last year, he was Ecuador’s candidate for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

Before joining LUPS, professor Pigozzi taught at the Law School of Santiago de Chile (Universidad Finis Terrae) from July 2020. From 2015 until 2020, Pigozzi was a research professor at Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. He also taught at the Summer Schools of Università di Sienna. Currently, he also teaches postgraduate courses at Universidad de los Hemisferios (Quito, Ecuador).

Pigozzi also has an established record of advocacy and promotion of the Christian tradition of human rights as he is a founding director of the Ecuadorean NGO Dignidad y Derecho (Dignity and Right) and a fellow of the Olga Wojtyla Community in Chile, which focuses on the dialogue between culture and the Catholic tradition.

Hungary and the Hungarian legal culture are not unknown to him, as he has collaborated with the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Peter Catholic University, and his wife, Johanna Fröhlich, is a well-known Hungarian legal scholar.

As Vice-Rector for International Affairs, his responsibilities will focus on building up networks and partnerships with universities, with a special focus on the Americas.
