Faculty Members of FLE Paid a Visit to the Faculty of Security Studies of the University of Banja Luka

At the invitation of the University of Banja Luka, three faculty members of FLE—Associate Professors Johanna Farkas, Tamás Kovács, and Szabolcs Mátyás—paid a professional visit to the Faculty of Security Studies of the Bosnian institution between 15 and 17 December 2025. The visit aligned well with our faculty’s internationalization strategy and served several interrelated professional objectives.

The primary aim of the program was to further expand and deepen the international network of the Faculty of Law Enforcement, with special attention to higher education and research institutions in the Western Balkans region. In addition, particular emphasis was placed on presenting and promoting the Law Enforcement, Security and Psychology (LEPSY) CEEPUS network, which has been operating successfully at our faculty for years, as well as on introducing the mobility and cooperation opportunities it offers to the host institution’s faculty members and students. The visit also provided an opportunity for our lecturers to deliver professional lectures within the framework of the course “Terrorism and Radicalization” for master’s students of the Faculty of Security Studies.

The lectures attracted lively interest from the students. Szabolcs Mátyás delivered a lecture entitled “Milestones of Predictive Policing in Hungary and the Possibilities of Forecasting in the Field of Terrorism,” focusing on modern law enforcement analytical methods and practical issues of risk assessment. Tamás Kovács presented his lecture “Terrorism in the Middle East” from a historical perspective, while Johanna Farkas analyzed the individual and group psychological aspects of radicalization processes in her lecture “Terrorism and Radicalization – A Psychological Perspective.” Following the professional block, Johanna Farkas gave a detailed presentation on the operation of the LEPSY CEEPUS network, opportunities for student and staff mobility, and the potential inherent in joint educational and research projects.

As one of the most important outcomes of the visit, the Faculty of Security Studies of the University of Banja Luka officially expressed its intention to join the CEEPUS network coordinated by Johanna Farkas. Although no formal bilateral cooperation agreement currently exists between the two institutions, several common educational and research directions emerged during the professional consultations. Joining the network will, in the future, provide opportunities for the regular exchange of students as well as academic and administrative staff, representing a significant step forward in further strengthening international educational and research activities.
