Dr Gökhan Yazici, an associate professor at Istanbul University (Cerrahpaşa) in Turkey, visited the Ludovika University of Public Service and the Institute of Disaster Management as part of the University's Ludovika Scholars Program between 12 and 18 October 2025.
On the afternoon of 13 October, the guest was greeted by Dr Gergely Deli, rector of the Ludovika University of Public Service, and subsequently held a meeting with Dr Pier Paolo Pigozzi, international vice-rector. Subsequently, on 14 October, associate professor Dr Gökhan Yazici visited the Institute of Disaster Management at the Miklós Zrínyi Barracks and University Campus, where he met with Brigadier General Ferenc Varga, head of the institute, associate professor, and Dr. Ágoston Restás, head of the department, full professor.
The guest speaker presented a public lecture on the subject of "Characteristics and lessons learned from earthquakes in Turkey" to a large number of disaster management students and foreign students studying at the Institute, as well as visiting lecturers who had come to the University. This was followed by a workshop entitled "Structural collapse detection with drone application and deep learning" in the meeting room of the Institute of Disaster Management with the lecturers of the Institute, interested students and foreign visiting lecturers.
On 15 October, Dr Yazici delivered a presentation at the Ludovika International Law Enforcement Research Symposium (LILERS) of the Faculty of Law Enforcement on "Earthquake experiences in Turkey from the perspective of first responders". During the course of the discussions with the visiting lecturer, Dr Gökhan Yazici, the potential for future collaboration in the domains of education and scientific research was explored.
