LUDOVIKA UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE

What are the possible ways to address cyber security threats and risks?

In the first half of October, the Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) hosted two international cyber training courses. The University has been at the forefront of organising international courses of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) of the European Union for years, and its courses have been highly appreciated by participants, based on the responses received.

The courses were organised and conducted in cooperation between two faculties: the Cyber Security Research Institute of the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies and the Department of International Security Studies of the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training (Dóra Molnár and Anna Molnár). Regarding training, it is worth mentioning that this year, for the first time, the European Union has made it possible for training courses to be open not only to citizens of EU Member States, but also to delegates from candidate countries. The University has taken advantage of this opportunity on two aspects. On the one hand, it involved the Military Academy General Mihailo Apostolski in Northern Macedonia and the University of Montenegro as co-organisers, and on the other hand, in line with one of the top priorities of the Hungarian EU Presidency, it targeted the assessment of the Western Balkan countries' cyber threat as a specific focus of the training.

The first training, which was held from 7 to 10 October, and the second training, organised from 14 to 17 October, were attended by several cyber experts from around 10 states, trained in each course. During the four-day training sessions, the experts received practical training in addition to theoretical lectures, and according to their feedback, they gained very useful knowledge. The training sessions were of a high professional standard and were conducted in a good atmosphere, and fruitful professional cooperation activities were initiated.

Next year, the University has again agreed to organise two ESDC courses, but this time the courses will not be technical, but will focus on global cybersecurity and the cyber ecosystem from a security and strategic perspective. We look forward to welcoming you in 2025!
