The International Office of the Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) organized an opening ceremony for international students (International Welcome Day) on February 13. The sold-out event, held in the university’s Széchenyi Ceremonial Hall, introduced various faculties and provided international students with insights into the activities of the University Student Government (EHÖK) and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN).
In his welcome speech, Pier Paolo Pigozzi, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, stated that exciting times are unfolding at the Ludovika Campus. He emphasized that the university focuses on the art and development of public service in various fields, including law enforcement, military science, water management, public administration, international relations, and teacher training. The vice-rector also highlighted Hungary’s rich, thousand-year-old traditions that students can experience during their studies.
Tamás Enikő Anna, a professor from the Department of Regional Water Management at the Faculty of Water Sciences (FWS), who joined the event via video call, highlighted the increasing number of international students at the faculty. She elaborated that FWS covers areas such as water management, water and environmental security, and water diplomacy. She also noted that students receive practical training, participate in field measurements, and learn about modern technologies.
Péter Krisztián Zachar, Vice-Dean for International Affairs at the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies (FPGIS), introduced the faculty’s programs and opportunities. He pointed out that students can gain a deeper understanding of public administration and international studies, enabling them to analyze global events such as the Russo-Ukrainian conflict or wars in the Middle East. The vice-dean stressed the need for young, well-trained professionals in complex governmental structures. He also highlighted the faculty’s extensive international relations and collaborations with numerous partner institutions worldwide, providing students with valuable international experience.
András Halbritter, Vice-Dean for International Affairs at the Nemeskürty István Teacher Training Faculty (NITTF), presented the characteristics of the newly established faculty. He detailed various innovative activities introduced in teacher training to enhance students' skills.
Tibor Kiss, Vice-Dean for Scientific and International Affairs at the Faculty of Law Enforcement (FLE), outlined the faculty’s training programs, which allow students to specialize in areas such as legal investigations and law enforcement administration. The goal of the training is to prepare students to serve competently in law enforcement agencies.
Ferenc Petruska, Lieutenant Colonel and Vice-Dean for International Affairs at the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training (FMSOT), introduced the faculty’s training programs, including BA, MA, and PhD degree opportunities. FMSOT trains military leaders and commanders for the Hungarian Defence Forces (MH) as well as security and defense policy experts for the defense sector. The training also familiarizes students with the traditions of officer training.
Following the speeches, university student organizations introduced themselves. Petra Réka Rybár, President of the University Student Government (EHÖK), emphasized: “LUPS is not just a place for learning but also an inspiring environment.” She noted that international students have the opportunity to gain new experiences and form friendships. The community supports students in facing new challenges and encourages them to explore university life.
Bálint Koós, Vice-President for International Affairs of EHÖK, highlighted the organization’s key responsibilities, including student representation, scholarships, financial and social support, student services, rights protection, and strengthening the student community.
