LUDOVIKA UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE

The Ludovika University of Public Service at the Brain Bar Festival

This year marked the 10th anniversary of Brain Bar Festival, one of Europe’s largest future festivals, where for the first time, our university had the opportunity to introduce itself. The event took place on September 26-27 at the House of Music in Hungary. This festival serves as a unique meeting point for young audiences and thought leaders, including scientists, politicians, and businesspeople from around the world, to discuss the pressing issues of the 21st century.

LUPS showcased its educational offerings through an appealing stand, aimed at encouraging prospective students to consider applying to our university. The stand featured interactive games and activities that created a lively connection with festival-goers. The booth’s design and the multi-day promotion were the result of teamwork between the staff of the Communications and Programs Directorate and our enthusiastic students.

Additionally, Liliana Śmiech, our university's Director General for International Affairs, was invited to a panel discussion titled "The Great Energy Race: Can the EU Hold on in an Ever-Competitive World?" Addressing the complex issue of energy transition and the EU’s declining competitiveness on the global stage, Ms. Śmiech emphasized that while climate change is a scientifically proven reality, the European Union is responsible for only about 7% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This limits the EU’s ability to singlehandedly influence global environmental outcomes.

She warned that while climate concerns are significant, Europe’s economic security has also reached a critical juncture. The upcoming 2035 ban on the sale of internal combustion engine cars could severely impact the European automotive industry, creating vulnerabilities that American and Chinese companies could easily exploit. She cautioned that such a shift, though environmentally motivated, could lead to a significant competitive disadvantage for Europe, further aggravating the continent’s economic challenges.
