The Senate of the University of Public Service (UPS) awarded Hojjat Adeli's work with an honorary doctorate in the St. Ladislaus Chapel in the Ludovika Main Building on 20 April. Brigadier General Árpád Pohl, Dean of the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training, Gábor Kovács Brigadier General, Dean of the Faculty of Law Enforcement, Tibor Bíró, Dean of the Faculty of Water Sciences, and Krisztián Zachar, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies, took part in the event.
Rector Gergely Deli opened the ceremony. "Over the past decades, Hojjat Adeli has become a world-renowned engineer due to his expertise and conscientious work," the Rector highlighted.
In his speech praising the acclaimed expert, Csaba Makó, Professor Emeritus of NKE, emphasized that this recognition is based on a life path that includes more than six hundred publications and numerous honorary doctoral awards worldwide. In addition, Prof Adeli is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a professor at Ohio State University.
In his inauguration speech, Prof Adeli listed, among others, distinguished Hungarian scientists who inspired not only his research but also the numerous defining discoveries of the last century. Before the ceremony, on 19 April, Prof Adeli gave a lecture at our University. He mentioned, among other things, scientific breakthroughs in which he played a key role, for example, the rapid development of robotic surgery, driverless cars, and devices recognizing heart disease or glaucoma. "We are getting closer to the development of automated society. The greatest danger of this is not that machines would become self-aware but the power given to the government. Thanks to the cameras, they can now see everything," he warned on the downside of the technical revolution.
However, at the award ceremony, the honorary doctorate sought to draw attention to the positive effects of science on our everyday lives: "The true scientist does not work for the present, but the future. Politics separate people; science brings them together. I work all over the world!" Hojjat Adeli closed his presentation.
