The COVID-19 epidemic has affected the preparations of the Dubai World EXPO 2020, as did in many cases of other international events. The date of the Expo was postponed to the period between October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The postponement provided an opportunity for the organizers to rethink what Expo should represent in a social, economic and political environment that is changing as a result of a pandemic. In the new situation the most important key mottos of the EXPO – besides sustainability - are safety and health protection.
The World Expo will be held for the first time in history in a Middle Eastern country where different institutions from more than 190 countries around the world will simultaneously compete to participate in the exhibition. The International Directorate of the University does its best to ensure the appropriate representation of UPS at the world event, since even appearances at pre-events are exceptional opportunities to build international and academic relationships as well as to introduce the diverse educational portfolio of the University on the broader international scene.
The organization of the World Expo is in full swing and already during the preparations, a number of online, professional programs are offered to those interested. Such was the „What’s on in the World” section of the Pre-Expo Water Week, for which the UPS’s application was also accepted.
Representing UPS, András Szöllősi-Nagy and János Zlinszky, lecturers of the Faculty of Water Sciences spoke in the below short videos about the importance of the role of water and sustainable development and the English language training programs offered by the Faculty:
