LUDOVIKA UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE

Phillip Blond, adviser to former British Prime Minister, David Cameron joined the Ludovika community

Phillip Blonde joined the Ludovika-University of Public Service as Chair of Christian Philosophy and Politics.

Phillip Blond was born in Liverpool in 1966. He studied theology at Cambridge University and philosophy and politics at Hull and the University of Warwick. In Cambridge he was a pupil of John Milbank, the founder of the radical Orthodox theological movement and a critic of liberalism. Throughout his career Blond taught several subjects at different universities, including classical and modern philosophy, theology, and history of philosophy, aesthetics, and even critical thinking.

Phillip Blond has won more than once the Technology and the Arts innovation scholarship of the National Endowment for Science, but his work has also been recognized by the New School for Social Research and the Royal British Academy. He has published articles in many prestigious journals, many of which have appeared in The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The New York Times, or Le Monde. In his writings he advocated, among other things, Red Toryism, a type of communitarian, socially conservative, radical Conservatism. In 2010, he wrote a joint article with Sir Roger Scruton, a defining figure in contemporary analytical philosophy. His most recent book, Red Tory, presents conservatism aimed at reaffirming social and community ties.

Blond is among those who do not believe in Brexit. His philosophy has also influenced former British Prime Ministers David Cameron and Theresa May. Last year, Phillip Blond also gave a lecture at the Bálványos Summer University in Tusnádfürdő (RO), where he argued in favor of Christian Democratic politics.
