Department of Hydraulic Engineering
During its 50 years our Department was subject to many structural changes. Despite these changes the quality of our teaching has remained outstanding as measured by our students’ employment figures. Our Department offers undergraduate degree courses in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Following 4 semesters of general Engineering studies, we offer a further 4 semesters of specialist studies in regional water management including water-related construction, water resources management, mathematics, Computer-Aided Design and IT. The Hydraulic Engineering Working Group specialises in Geodesy, Soil mechanics, Geotechnics, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. The Water Management Working Group focuses on Hydrology, Hydraulics, Hydrometry, Geology, Flood Control, Irrigation and Drainage, Water Resources management and River Management. The Mathematics and IT Working Group is responsible for Physics and Mathematics,. During the first two years, our students participate in Surveying and Hydrometry practices (camps).
The Department is well equipped with all necessary measuring instruments. There are specialist laboratories available for geotechnical and construction studies. The College has a water technology plant with a hydraulics laboratory suitable for complex demonstrations and research. Our Sediment Laboratory meets international standards.
Our students acquire both academic and practical knowledge in water management which enables them to find employment with ease in Water Management and Environmental Engineering or to continue their education in MSc or PhD programmes. We also offer post-graduate specialist engineering training in Flood and excess water management, in Nature protection aspect water management as well as in Hydrometry and hydroinformatics.
Our Department has developed significant research expertise in Catchment hydrology, Environmental Physics and Hydraulics, Stochastic Processes, Mathematical Statistics in addition to Hydrometry and Hydrogeodesy, Flood hydrology, Sediment monitoring and Hydro-dínamic modeling. Our Department is internationally renowned for our technology of measurements, data collection and analysis used in hydrometry, hydro-geodesy, open channel hydraulics, habitat reconstruction planning and sediment research. We encourage students to participate in our research projects, which enables them to develop deeper understanding as well as utilise their knowledge in the form of a TDK thesis (TDK-Scientific Student Club). Our colleagues participate in many national and international research conferences. Our publishing profile is closely related to our research activities.
The department actively takes part in the design and implementation of various national and international projects on the development of engineering education and research, mainly in the fields of our research interest.
