The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy sees as its mission to contribute through education and science to a state capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century, good and efficient governance, and a committed civil service. Thus, the mission of the department is to train professionals with theoretical and practical knowledge who are able to participate in the Hungarian public administration, the international relations of Hungary, the framework of the European Union institutions, as well as international organizations. To this end, the department conducts teaching and research in the field of multidisciplinary international relations among the university tasks.

The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy primarily teaches the contents of the undergraduate and master's courses in the training portfolio of the Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies dealing with international politics, regional sciences, foreign policy, civilization and diplomatic issues. The department's portfolio includes courses in International Administration (BA), International Security and Defense Policy (BSc / MSc), Master of International Public Service Relations (MA), Master of International Relations (MA) and International Public Service Relations in English. (MA). The training palette of the department is enriched with the international theoretical, foreign policy, historical, European, regional and civilization, as well as diplomacy courses of other training modules, which can be found at other faculties of the university. The department also conducts teaching and research of narrower professional knowledge, such as certain issues of international organizations and institutions, state-building, forms of political violence, and the development and challenges of Hungarian foreign and security policy.

The Department of International Relations and Diplomacy is a multidisciplinary research base that examines the processes of the international and European order and system, as well as current issues on the agenda of the international community. Diplomats experienced in transferring practical knowledge, public officials in public administration make the work of the department more complete and diplomacy-oriented. Our colleagues are regularly involved in disseminating scientific knowledge and nurturing student talent, preparing for National Scientific Student Conferences, and international competitions. The lecturers of the department have a special role in the two doctoral schools of the university: they take on the role of a supervisor within the framework of both the Doctoral School of Military Sciences and the Doctoral School of Public Administration.
