LUDOVIKA UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE

Department of Foreign and Specialized Languages

Head of Department: Zsuzsanna Nagy, language teacher

The principal task of the Department of Foreign and Specialized Languages is to provide full-time and part-time BA and MA students with the relevant foreign language skills. This is currently undertaken by 12 language teachers.

Within the framework of specialized language lessons (lessons for specific purposes) we are currently offering language courses in five languages (English, German, French, Russian and Spanish) covering multiple areas, such as the language of public administration, politics, economy or diplomacy. Besides teaching terminology, our primary aim is to familiarize students with a toolkit that helps them at their future workplace when they need to communicate in a foreign language. In addition, the efficiency of our specialized courses plays a decisive role in encouraging student mobility.

Currently we are offering general language courses in eight languages (German, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese and Czech) from elementary to advanced level. Students with excellent oral and written English skills are welcome to acquire a new language on these courses.

We keep updating and modernising our course materials to ensure students remain attentive and motivated, thus we have also successfully integrated ICT tools in our in-class routine.

The Department closely cooperates with the Language Exam Centre for Public Administration, where students can take accredited English language exams for public administration at three levels. Students become familiar with typical exam tasks on the specialized language lessons.
